Family Washed off Rocks at Fistral Beach Newquay, Father Died

On Friday 19 August a family of five were standing on rocks on South Fistral Beach, Newquay when a large, giant, wave swept the mother, father and 2 year old into the water.  They were then swept out to sea at just after 5.15pm at South Fistral beach.Family Washed Rocks Fistral Beach Newquay Died

A passer by witnessed it and called the emergency services immediately and the Newquay RNLI, being just round the corner, were quickly on the scene.  The mother was picked up by the beach-based RNLI lifeguard jetski and returned to the beach; the father and 2 year old were picked up by the lifeboat and landed at Newquay Harbour.  The two boys managed to cling onto the rocks until they were rescued and returned to the beach.

Father and daughter were taken to Treliske Hospital, Truro by Air Ambulance, which landed on Killacourt. The Air Ambulance is based at Newquay Airport, under 2 miles away.

The father died overnight; the 2 year old is in critical condition at Truro Hospital. The family, from Surrey and in their 30s, were on holiday in the area.

The couple’s 2 year old daughter, McKayla Brunynius is still in Treliske Hospital.  McKayla’s two brothers weren’t washed into the sea and scrambled their own way back to the beach.  Friends of the family have set up a crowdfunding page:
