Lifeguard Centre Official Opening

At Fistral Beach, the brand new, super-modern, RNLI lifeguard “hut” has been officially opened.

Building work started on the two storey building at the edge of the car park in February 2010 and took six months to complete. Since 2001, RNLI lifeguards have been working from temporary buildings since the old cafe was demolished for the new Fistral Surf Centre to be built (which opened in 2003).

The RNLI have invested £500,000 to build the new facility, with Newquay lifeguards managing more than 520 lifesaving incidents each year on Fistral Beach.

The two storey building has everything they need, including good visibility across the length of the beach from two large balconies and panoramic aspect windows. There’s also plenty of storage, office and meeting room space for the roles the RNLI perform.
