Mercedes Hits Newquay Stone Ball

At about 4am this morning, a Mercedes managed to hit one of Newquay’s stone balls on East Street. When the stone balls were originally installed, they were set in concrete to prevent any drunken hilarity of rolling them around the town. The Mercedes managed to dislodge the ball, which rolled across the road.

The accident was outside Newquay main Post Office, beside the Victoria Hotel.

It’s believed this was the result of drunk driving. It was a very foggy night last night, with visibility about 10′

Now – he’s facing the wrong way; I admit that the impact of hitting a stone ball could/would spin a car round, but the guy’s facing the wrong way! He drove too fast down the one way street, nearly hit an oncoming car and a pedestrian. Driver initially fled the scene, but was caught.
