Oldest Person in Newquay has Died, Edith Goodwin (1905-2014)

Edith Goodwin was the oldest person in Newquay when she died, aged 108, on 20 September 2014. Edith was also the oldest person in Cornwall.

She was 108 years and 279 days old.

Edith Goodwin had been living at the Hollybush Residential Home in Glamis Road, Newquay. Before she moved into Hollybush, she’d lived in a flat at 53 Penhallow Road, Newquay.  Edith was a retired teacher, having graduated from Cambridge University.

Edith was born on 20 December 1905 in Leeds, before moving to Leicester.   Edith Peachey married Leslie Goodwin in 1950 in Leeds and they moved to Newquay to live in 1967, when they retired.  They never had children.
