Poldark Filming Locations: Charlestown, Cornwall

Poldark Film Locations Charlestown CornwallPoldark was filmed in Charlestown Harbour, using its original old harbour area. The Harbour has been used in many period films and period dramas as the original Harbour exists and is perfect for filming true to life scenes, complete with tallships and galleons.

The village of Charlestown is on the outskirts of St Austell, Cornwall, just over one mile from the town centre, yet it’s like stepping into another world. Many of the houses are original, typical, Cornish cottages, interspersed with more recent additions, designed sympathetically.

In Charlestown there are two pubs/bars from the Victorian Rashleigh Arms and Harbourside Inn at the Pier House Hotel and also restaurants. There’s plenty of relaxing things to do in the area, with the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum, coastal walks or simply sitting round the quayside and imagining the history of the area! Charlestown is a quiet location.

For the basics of life, there are two supermarkets close to Charlestown, Tesco and Asda, both 24 hour supermarkets – so you’re not cut off from picking up your oysters and champagne for a treat!
