Rare Surfing Film

NEWQUAY’S Lighthouse Cinema is screening a rare surfing film by surfing legend and film maker Rodney Sumpter on Saturday at 8pm. Tickets are £7

“60s Surf Magic” contains footage taken between 1965-1972 – including some that has never been seen before. Outtakes from Rod Sumpter’s films and also showing a film about Gwyn Haslock, (20 minutes). The film shows previously unseen footage of Rod Sumpter, filmed in Cornwall, Australia, North Shore Oahu, France, Puerto Rico and Ireland.

Watch iconic surfers from these early days, including Gavin Rudolph, Fred Hemmings, Keith Paul, Rolf Arness, Midget, Peter Drouyn, Rodney Sumpter, Corky Carroll, David Nuuhiwa and many more.

The second film is by Gwynn Haslock – Britain’s oldest stand-up surfer – and a talk from Rod Sumpter himself.

It will be shown at 8pm tomorrow, 30 June 2012
