The Pasty is Protected!

After years of wrangling and arguments, the Cornish Pasty is officially protected by a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), meaning that the great Cornish Pasty has received a European protected status.

A special logo has been designed and will now indicate if a pasty is a Cornish Pasty or not. Legally, from now on a genuine Cornish pasty must have been prepared in Cornwall, even if it has been baked elsewhere.

David Ronda, from the Cornwall Development Company, said: "By protecting our regional food heritage, we are protecting local jobs.

“Thousands of people in Cornwall are involved in the pasty industry, from farmers to producers, and it’s important that the product’s quality is protected for future generations.”
