Council ‘must think again’

Cornwall’s Lib Dem MPs have called for the Council to reconsider its cost cutting measures in the wake of the Local Government Finance Settlement this week.

The Council set out cuts of 10% in its emergency budget, days before Westminster revealed required savings of 3.9% for the 2011-12 financial year, which was lower than many other councils.

MP for Newquay & St Austell, Steve Gilbert, said: “The funding settlement for local government displays the lack of judgement shown by the Council. Just last week they put the cart before the horse, announcing 10% cuts.

Export Cornwall Launches Today

Today sees the launch of Export Cornwall – a new business network designed to help businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly trade internationally.

The initiative is being launched at an event at the Headland Hotel in Newquay, which will be attended by more than 100 local businesses.

Export Cornwall is backed by the £2 million UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Globalisation Project, which has received European Regional Development Fund investment through the Convergence Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Continue reading
