Towan Promenade Newquay 2017

Towan Promenade is increasingly drawing the crowds down to the beach, with great, fresh food, beach huts for hire, surfing lessons and a new surfwear outlet which opened in December 2017.  This is the third year of operation for this newly revamped prime seafront area of the town, making it the vibrant outdoor space it always deserved, providing more and more goods and services that you, the great voting British public, want on your beach holiday!

Also available are free outdoor heated showers, beach lockers, beach wifi and a beach shop. The closest toilets which are free to use are in the Blue Reef Aquarium. There are old favourites and new retail outlets to enjoy for the summer of 2018.

Traders on Towan Promenade are independent traders, operating under year-long licenses,  offering start up businesses a great chance to launch their business in a fabulous location. There will be annual changes to the businesses offering their wares as those businesses grow and develop, change and morph into bigger and better outlets. These low start up cost opportunities gave a toe in the door to aspiring entrepreneurs to have a great start realise their “Living by the Beach Dream”.

Below are some of the independent businesses you can expect to find on Towan Promenade in 2018 – but you might be surprised to find new ones when you visit!  Towan Promenade is now a place to visit and not just a space you walk through to get to the beach!

  • Barrow Boys Beach Bakery: Operating from a freshly painted large beach hut you” find freshly baked breads, cakes, hot Cornish pasties, homemade Cornish cream teas as well as freshly ground coffees and tea infusions and hot chocolate!  They have a 5 for food hygiene (last inspected 5 July 2017).
  • The Point: Discount surfwear outlet in Newquay, right where you want it, on the beach.  General surf wear, discount wetsuits, outdoor wear and sporting goods. Also surfboard, SUP, kayak and wetsuit hire.
  • Beach Café à la Carte – Freshly cooked hotdogs, crepes and coffee – look for the hot dog trolley.  This is by the same operators as The Beach Bakery.
  • Towan Juice Bar – freshly squeezed juices and more.
  • Beach Hut Hire: Modern beach huts, with electricity and heating.
Beach hut hire prices vary, but you can expect to pay maybe a price range of £25-30/day, or £150-200/week depending on the season.

Old Favourites:

You’ll also find old favourites, businesses that have operated from Towan Beach Promenade “forever”, including:

  • The Surf Cabin Beach Shop: All the usual beach shop goodies you’re after.
  • Towan Surf Hire: If you want to hire it, these guys will have it – and at the cheapest/best prices in town: Deckchair hire, surf gear, surf boards, stand up paddleboards (SUP) or even a hire a kayak.  The beach hire shop is at the top of the ramp from the beach, right under the blue & white 2-storey beach hut row. Rent by the hour or the day.
  • Newquay Activity Centre (NAC): Surf school and activity centre, including surfing and bodyboarding lessons, as well as monster SUP coasteering and kayak tours.

… and, of course, there’s the Sea Life Centre – but that’s so big you can’t miss it 🙂
