During the 1930s-1950s Sir Bruce Forsyth spent many happy holidays in Newquay, Cornwall, with his parents. From when Bruce was about three, until the start of the second world war (and even during the war), he and his parents would head down to Cornwall, especially Newquay, to get away from it all. Planned Perran Railway Pier and Harbour 1865

In 1865 an application was submitted to incorporate a company, called “The Perran Railway, Pier, and Harbour Objects Company”, and to empower them to set up and run a light railway from near to Perranporth, through Cubert and out to Holywell Bay – and building a long pier into the sea and a harbour. Clearly this never went ahead; many similar plans, such as the light railway from Padstow to Newquay didn’t go ahead either. Continue reading →

Mini Castle and Tower Newquay

The mini castle and tower in Newquay is a striking building – now the Newquay Golf Club, but it was originally built as a house. Commanding panoramic views across the golf course to Fistral Beach the views would have been fantastic, yet from the road it was within 200 yards of what was, then, the centre of Newquay.
