Free Parking at Fistral

If you’ve not spotted it already, the Newquay Voice newspaper have a free parking permit voucher in last week’s and this week’s edition that allows you to park for free at Fistral Beach for the whole winter.

Newquay branch line flooding

Network Rail engineers are continuing to work to restore full train services on the Newquay branch line after severe flooding in the area.

Services between Par and Newquay continue to be affected by significant flooding, which has caused the branch line to be blocked by debris and a storage tank washed onto the track.

Engineers are on-site to clear the line and replace any lost track material, but the line will remain closed until further notice. Continue reading

Winter wins Pro Surf Tour Title

Newquay’s Russell Winter has been crowned the 2010 UK Pro Surf Tour champion following the competition’s final leg, the Newquay Open.

Winter was eliminated early on at the Newquay event but still finished 360 points ahead of second-placed Gordon Fontain in the overall standings.

Winter took the honours at three events on the tour, winning at Croyde, Fraserburgh and Tynemouth.

The women’s title went to Wales’ Gwen Spurlock for the second year running. Continue reading

Cornwall floods latest news!

Emergency services in Cornwall are dealing with incidents of flooding in western parts of the county. Due to heavy rainfall overnight areas of St Austell and St Blazey are impassable and people have been trapped in their cars and homes.

Members of HM Coastguard and Search and Rescue helicopters were used throughout the night to monitor the situation but have since been stood down.

Police have declared the flooding as a “major incident” and are working together with Cornwall Fire and Rescue and local authorities. Continue reading
