There was a surprise announcement today when Air Southwest said they are pulling out of their daily Newquay to London Gatwick route.
Air Southwest have operated four flights daily to London Gatwick, but the service will stop with effect from 1 February 2011.
This leaves Flybe as the only airline now linking Cornwall with London Gatwick all year round. Ryanair ceased flying the Newquay to Gatwick route in 2009 and Air Southwest dropped its flights between London City Airport and Newquay Airport in 2010.
Let’s hope that another carrier fills the gap, so that there’s an effective Newquay to London route that can be used for tourism and business users alike, as well as those locals who are working away and weekly commuting.
