Air Southwest To Drop Newquay Airport to London Gatwick Route

There was a surprise announcement today when Air Southwest said they are pulling out of their daily Newquay to London Gatwick route.

Air Southwest have operated four flights daily to London Gatwick, but the service will stop with effect from 1 February 2011.

This leaves Flybe as the only airline now linking Cornwall with London Gatwick all year round. Ryanair ceased flying the Newquay to Gatwick route in 2009 and Air Southwest dropped its flights between London City Airport and Newquay Airport in 2010.

Let’s hope that another carrier fills the gap, so that there’s an effective Newquay to London route that can be used for tourism and business users alike, as well as those locals who are working away and weekly commuting. Continue reading

Newquay RNLI lifeboats search for missing female

The first launch of the New Year for Newquay’s lifeboats was to search for a missing woman.

Newquay’s inshore lifeboats launched at 13:40 hrs on Tuesday 4th January 2010 to search for a missing female. The lady had been reported missing by concerned friends who were unsure of her whereabouts.

Falmouth Coastguard received a 999 call reporting the local lady missing. They were concerned that she may have got into difficulties along the coast line.

Tasked to search from Pentire headland to Porth Island, the lifeboats launched with volunteers Joe Emmett and Christian Brown at the helms. The volunteer lifeboat crew along with the Newquay Cliff rescue team carried out an extensive search before being stood down at 14:30 hrs. The lady had been found safe and well at home.
