Kids Clubs in Newquay 2013

There are a variety of kids clubs in Newquay, for land sports enthusiasts, water sports fans, Guides/Scouts and other groups such as the Fire Cadets.

There is a sports hall, a swimming pool local club headquarters and huts, as well as all those lovely beaches – giving kids in Newquay a fabulous choice of activities to enjoy, meet other kids, learn new skills and to get out and about.

Many of these clubs have a wider social aspect to them, with trips contests and events across Cornwall that the whole family can join in with.

Most clubs are also seeking adult volunteers, so maybe you can get involved too.

At Newquay Sports Hall there’s a choice of a Kids Climbing Club (12-16), Bokwa Dance (12+), Jaz Hands Dance (8-11), Trampoline (8-15), Boot Camp Fitness (16+).

For swimmers, the pool at Trenance has a Swimming Club that’s active on the National Swimming Competitions scene.

Surf Life Saving Clubs

Newquay Surf Life Saving Club has groups for ages 7-13 and 13-19. Based at … activities include water safety, developing beach life saving techniques and encouraging active participation in SLS competitions and SLSGB awards. There’s also a strong social events calendar. The Surf Life Saving Club meets for 1.5 hours on different nights, depending on age. Ages 7-13 meet on Thursday nights; ages 13-19 meet on Monday nights. For the older members there’s also Beach Lifeguard Instruction on Wednesdays.

Newquay Fire Cadets

Newquay Fire Station have a Fire Cadets group, the first in Cornwall. Starting in 1996, this is a popular club. The Fire Cadets is suitable for ages 12+ and they meet on Monday evenings, from 6.30-8.30pm at Tregunnel Hill.

Fire Cadets work towards an Award Certificate as well as picking up life skills and teamwork along the way.

Beavers, Cub Scouts and Scouts

Cornwall Beaver Scouts is for ages 6-8; Cub Scouts are for ages 8-10; Scouts are aged 10-14; Explorers are aged 14-18. There are also Network members aged 18-25.

There are two main Scouts groups in Newquay, Newquay 1st Scouts and Newquay 5th Scouts – each has their own website and Facebook page.

Scouts groups include activities such as canoeing, hiking, swimming, hiking, camping, crafts and climbing and more.

They also are involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and the annual Ten Tors Challenge.

Rainbows, Brownies and Girl Guides in Newquay

There are a number of groups in Newquay and St Columb Minor. Rainbows are aged 5-7, Brownies are 7-10, Guides at 10-14. There is also one Seniors group, for ages 14-26.

Newquay has two Rainbows groups, two Brownies and one Guides; St Newlyn East has a Brownies group; St Columb Minor has one Rainbows, three Brownies and a Guides Group. The website has details for contacting them.


Newquay & District Amateur Radio Club

If your child’s got an electronics interest, the Newquay & District Amateur Radio Club meets every other Thursday at Treviglas Community College, Bradley Road, Newquay, TR7 3JA. This is an adult club, that accepts keen younger members.

Activities include technical radio and computing talks, as well as operating amateur radio and long-distance events where temporary radio stations are set up in locations to contact people around the world. To operate an Amateur Radio a license is required, which is obtained by undertaking a course of study and sitting exams.


Newquay Rowing Club

Based at the Rowing Club Headquarters in Newquay Harbour, Newquay Rowing Club have active junior members, who can take part in a variety of Gig Rowing events around the county.


Tennis Clubs in Newquay

The Heron Tennis Club is on Edgcumbe Avenue, at Trenance, by the viaduct. You can’t miss it, there’s a huge, white, domed/covered tennis court. The club have two outdoor tennis courts and 8 indoor courts.
