If you were watching Homes Under the Hammer this morning, there was a 2-bedroom detached fisherman’s cottage that went to auction in 2011 and appeared on the TV programme this morning.
The property in Mousehole was a detached three roomed freehold cottage, with two bedrooms upstairs and a living room and kitchen downstairs. A former fisherman’s cottage, just 30 yards from Mousehole Harbour, it was in the property auction catalogue at a guide price of £135k+ and was bought for £166,000 by Martin, a head teacher from Surrey, South London, and his wife Yvonne, who originated from Cornwall.
There was some updating required, with some rewiring, replastering and redecorating, with the standard new kitchen being fitted. The shower room received a new shower enclosure and unit. All the floors had new wood flooring fitted and the outside front was tidied.
There was no outside space at all, bar a 2′ strip at the front which was decorated with some Cornish Palm Trees in pots.
Having spent about £11,000 on the renovations and updating, two local agents guesstimated its new value at £235-245k. Peak period rentals were estimated at £800-900/week.

As they don’t do updates on the programme, I like to keep an eye on some properties, for updates.
In September 2014 this cottage in Mousehole was put up for sale at £215,000. The details said that the owners had been letting it out as a successful holiday let for the last two years. There’s no evidence that it did sell, but if it were sold to an existing holiday let company then the sale wouldn’t be visible on the land registry.
