New RNLI Boat Naming, Newquay

New RNLI Boat Naming, Newquay

Date: Saturday 7 Mar 2015. Starts: 2PM. Ends: 4PM.

Location: South Quay Hill, Newquay

Details of Event:

Newquay RNLI have a new inshore lifeboat and there is a naming ceremony being held at Newquay Harbour. Space inside the Lifeboat Station is limited, so it’s ticket holders only inside – but there will be ample seating provided outside on the quayside for the public to attend and watch proceedings.

The inshore lifeboat has been made possibly because of a legacy from the late Enid Mary May – a strong RNLI supporter. Enid’s niece, Vir, and her husband, Michael, will be attending and making a small speech.

The new Enid Mary May lifeboat will replace the Valerie Wilson, which has been in operation by the RNLI for ten years.

The Valerie Wilson was named after the wife of Lesley Wilson of Twickenham, who donated the funds to purchase the new RNLI lifeboat. The Valerie Wilson was added to the fleet on in 2005.

The first lifeboat at Newquay was in 1860 and called Joshua.
