The family of Luke Harrison are shocked over the death of the young man after he was discovered on Great Western Beach on Saturday morning.
Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating after they were summoned by a beach walker reporting a body found on the beach.
“Police officers attended and located the body of a young man in his 20s that had been washed up from the sea, the body was clothed,” said a spokesman.
“Police cordoned the area to allow for an investigation of the scene and the enquiries are continuing. However, how and when he died and how he got into the sea are not known at this time.”
“Our thoughts are clearly with his friends and family at this time,” said the police statement. “As a result a number of lines of inquiry are being followed.
“We have established that he was involved in an incident in the town earlier in the evening and are speaking to two individuals with regard to this incident.”
There were a number of other lines of inquiry and anyone who could assist with the investigation was asked to contact them.
Luke’s aunt, Debbie Harrison said: “We are all totally devastated. Why does it happen to the good guys?
“He is and always will be a legend,” she wrote on the Facebook social networking site.
Further social media statements included one from Charlotte Jones who said: “What a waste. Can’t believe this brilliant, charming, sweet kid was taken”.
Charlotte Debieux wrote on Twitter: “Today hurt.. forever young so sad rip luke harrison missed by many, sad that young good youths die”.
