The world’s most expensive pasty, made by Hampshire chef Richard Shaw for the 2015 World Pasty Championships, is to be auctioned for charity. In the event Richard and his expensive pasty came in 4th place.
Created for the World Pasty Championships, which were held last Saturday, Richard Shaw who runs the Southwick Village Stores in Fareham, Hampshire, made the VIP Pasty – the world’s most expensive pasty.
The VIP pasty is made in the traditional way, but the ingredients are the best that could be bought – and it cost £230 to make. The steak is Japanese Wagu Beef at £500/Kg, the potatoes come from Illinois in the US, the flour in the pastry comes from the Netherlands, the onions are from France, the swede is from Scotland and the black pepper is from India.
The air miles of the ingredients total 11,300, as calculated by somebody who actually sat and worked it out!
The winner of the online auction won’t be getting the actual pasty made for the Pasty World Championships last weekend – Richard will be baking the auction winner a fresh pasty on the last day of the auction. The winner of the VIP Pasty will have it sent to them in a refrigerated box.
At the time of writing there are 32 bids and the price is £108!
The Pasty Auction ends at 4.21pm on 11 March 2015.
The world’s most expensive pasty is at £117 with just 17 minutes to go!
UPDATE: This pasty sold for £117 in the end, with 35 bids. All money going to charity.
