Newquay Branch Line Will Remain Closed for Several Weeks

After the flooding last week in the St Austell area, the Par to Newquay railway branch line was closed by landslips. It’s now been announed that the Par to Newquay branch line won’t be open for a few weeks more, bringing us to at least mid-December before it’s open again. Continue reading

Cornwall’s Tributes to Late Surfing Champion Andy Irons

A world champion surfer who was well known in Newquay and throughout the Cornish surfing community has died.

Andy Irons was found dead in a hotel room in Dallas yesterday. The reason for his death is unclear. He was aged just 32.

Triple world champion Mr Irons, who competed twice in Newquay, is understood to have been en route to his home in Hawaii.

At the weekend he pulled out of an event in Puerto Rico, due to illness. Continue reading

Newquay Safe Scheme Given Awards

A scheme set up to improve Newquay’s image and keep visitors safe has won two national awards.

Newquay Safe partnership, led by Cornwall Council and Devon and Cornwall Police, has been recognised by the Chartered Institute for Public Relations (CIPR).

The partnership’s work in addressing alcohol-related safety concerns over 16 and 17 year olds visiting the town has been awarded the Local Public Services Communications Award for ‘partnership excellence’ and the West of England PRide Award for community relation

A woman killed in a four-vehicle pile-up on the A30 was from the Newquay area, police have revealed today.
