Newquay RNLI assists sailing dinghy

Newquay’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat launched at 3,25pm on Wednesday 17 November 2010 to assist a sailing dinghy in difficulties about a quarter of a mile off Newquay Harbour.

Falmouth Coastguard received a phone call from a lone sailor requesting assistance as he was unable to make his way back to the harbour. The outhaul on his laser dinghy had broken and he was unable to sail the boat. He had slackened the sail off to prevent him being blown further out to sea.

Captain Calamity Beaten By the Cribbar Wave

Captain Calamity, as the press him, tried unsuccessfully to enjoy the big Cribbar Wave and ended up having his catamaran trashed. Glenn Crawley, 55, turned his catamaran into matchsticks in the surf of the monster wave known locally as The Cribbar, Britain’s biggest wave – and Captain Calamity’s 13th rescue to date.
