There’s new Car Parking at Port Isaac. Port Isaac’s new car park opened in July 2013, with 140 spaces to cater for the thousands of visiting Doc Martin fans. At a cost of £400k, with the Doc Martin production team donating £32k towards the cost, the new car park hasn’t been welcomed by all, who feel the small picturesque north Cornwall village is marred by a large car park.
The new Port Isaac car park is at Trewetha Lane, Port Isaac (the B3267 road) and will provide a visitor car park and outdoor market on a field next to Port Isaac Recreation ground. Car parking at Port Isaac will now be easier for locals as well as regular visitors and Doc Martin fans.
Cornwall Council car park services will, at no charge to the Parish Council, collect the cash from the ‘pay and display’ machines and bank it in the Parish Council’s account. It will restock the ticket machines. None of the car park proceeds will go to Cornwall Council. After VAT and operating expenses such as business rates are paid all of the net income will be used to repay the public works loan over the loan term of 10 years
When the loan is repaid and Cornwall Council is no longer liable, the Parish Council will be free to spend the net income as the community wishes.
The Cornwall Council loan guarantee ensures that no costs will fall on council tax precept payers.
