The RNLI were kept busy in 2012 in Newquay, with North Fistral being the second busiest beach in the South West for RNLI lifeguards – they dealt with 394 incidents during the season. Newquay’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew put in 299 hours at sea on callouts.
With nine beaches in the Restormel area (Crantock, South Fistral, North Fistral, Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne, Porth, Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth), the RNLI lifeguards racked up 1,459 incidents in 2012. They helped 1597 people and saved four lives.
In 2011, the number of incidents and people assisted were higher, but 2011 was a drier year, so there were more visitors on the beaches and in boats.
