Established in 1921 Newquay Rowing Club is the oldest club on the gig rowing circuit. The championships have been running since 1969 and are a competitive, but friendly, games that have provided a few spills, thrills and watery mishaps over the years, with a few boats being overturned by waves. Clubs don’t row their own boats – due to the popularity and the number of clubs, there are a fixed number of Pilot Gigs available and the clubs row the boats they are allocated.

Newquay Rowing Club are also believed to be the owners of the oldest traditional wooden gig that is still in use; called “The Newquay” it was built in 1812.

Saturday: The heats, starting at 9.30am
Sunday: Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.

Hot and cold food, pasties, burgers, sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold beverages will be available from the gig shed, under Newquay Rowing Club on the Harbourside.
