Black Humphrey, Newquay Smuggler

Black Humphrey was a notorious Newquay smuggler, although little is known of him, but he died in about 1804-1807. There are a few old books which contain stories of Black Humphrey and his life, but these aren’t easy to find.

Planned Perran Railway Pier and Harbour 1865

In 1865 an application was submitted to incorporate a company, called “The Perran Railway, Pier, and Harbour Objects Company”, and to empower them to set up and run a light railway from near to Perranporth, through Cubert and out to Holywell Bay – and building a long pier into the sea and a harbour. Clearly this never went ahead; many similar plans, such as the light railway from Padstow to Newquay didn’t go ahead either. Continue reading
