Anger as mural is painted over

A mural to promote responsible behaviour among young people in Newquay has been painted over.

Burger King said the mural on its wall “had to be repainted” after a request from the landlord of the building.

The organisation behind the mural, My A’th Kar Newquay, which means “I Love You Newquay” in Cornish, said young people behind the mural were “reeling” from the incident.

The owners of the Burger King building were unavailable for comment.

The mural was painted on the wall of the Burger King restaurant in Cliff Road, Newquay, in November by members of My A’th Kar Newquay, a voluntary project. Continue reading →

Coastal Search Underway for Missing Local Man

A joint coastal search was started today with coastguard teams, two lifeboats and a rescue helicopter, to try to find a missing local man, Mark Neville, 45, who disappeared from his home in Newquay on Thursday night.

Police state that they are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Mr Neville is described as 6ft 4in (1.6m), of thin build, with short light brown hair and is believed to be wearing blue jeans and a green top.

Richard Williams, spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said that the emergency services, including a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, have been searching the local area from Kelsey Head, near Crantock, to Watergate Bay. Continue reading →

Newquay residents warned to be on the alert for new phone scam.

olice are warning residents across Devon and Cornwall about a telephone scam where people are persuaded to pay money over the phone to avoid having their line cut off.

Reports have been made to police in South Molton of an individual ringing the customer claiming to be from BT, advising them that their line will be disconnected because of an unpaid bill.

A payment of £31 is demanded to rectify the situation, otherwise it will cost £118 to re-connect the line at a later date.

If the customer tells them that that they are with a different phone provider, they tell you that they have to pay BT a percentage for line rental. Continue reading →
