Surf Challenge for Autism The Wave Project, July 2013

A surf event for autistic children will be held at Fistral Beach on Saturday 6 July and Sunday 7 July 2013. Free to watch, entry fee to take part: Andy Jordan, of Made in Chelsea, is one of the volunteers on Saturday 6 July.

Andy Jordan, one of the stars in Made In Chelsea, the TV programme, will become a volunteer surf instructor for autistic children at a charity event being held on Fistral Beach in Newquay on 6 July 2013.

Andy Jordan will be assisting Truro-based charity The Wave Project at their event on 6 July: Surf Challenge for Autism. This is a free surfing initiative giving autistic people the chance to show off their surfing skills. He first saw the event posted on Twitter and took up the challenge by contacting The Wave Project and offering his services. Other stars at the event will include former English Surfing Champion Hannah Harding and UK Champion Russell Winter.

The two day event will be include a competition for autistic surfers, and free surfing taster sessions for people with disabilities to try the sport. It is being funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

The competition has already attracted entrants from all over the UK and Europe, including Wales and the Netherlands.

They will be judged by professional surfing judges on the UK Pro Surf Tour, supported by an autism expert.
