St Columb Major arson in the gorse

Arsonists have set fire to a large area of gorse at St Columb Major according to the fire service.

Crews battled to put out a 200 metre front of fire at Tregonetha Downs after it broke out just after midnight.

It is the second gorse fire in the county within 48 hours which is being treated as suspicious. Continue reading →

Penhallow Hotel Fire, 18 August 2007

The Penhallow Hotel was a large, older, hotel overlooking The Island and Towan Beach, with views across to the Headland and Newquay Harbour.

The Penhallow Hotel burnt down in a ferocious fire on the night of 17 August 2007, causing the death of three holidaymakers who couldn’t escape the flames. Continue reading →
