One Michelin Star
There are two one-star Michelin restaurants in Cornwall:
Paul Ainsworth at Number Six, Padstow. (new in 2013)
Paul Ainsworth won his first Michelin star in October 2012 – but it wasn’t just a first for Paul, this was Padstow’s first Michelin star too. The menus are based around local, seasonal ingredients, cooked in a simple modern style with a Cornish influence. They are closed Sundays and Mondays. Number 6 is a slate-roofed Grade II-listed house nestled in the heart of Padstow, an ancient Cornish fishing village, next door to two of Rick Stein’s retail ventures.
Paul Ainsworth also jointly owns/runs Rojano’s in the Square, an Italian restaurant.

First Restaurant in Cornwall to attain a Michelin Star
I’ll also mention here Kevin Viner, who, at the time of writing, has left Cornwall.
Kevin Viner was the first restaurant in Cornwall to attain a Michelin star. Originally operating from Viners’ Restaurant at Summercourt in the centre of Cornwall, he had to cease trading for awhile to find new premises – Kevin then teamed up to open ‘Viner at the Rose’, at the Rose in Vale Hotel, St Mithian, Cornwall – a small hamlet just inland of St Agnes on the north Cornish coast. Kevin Viner won his Michelin Star when he ran Pennypots in Blackwater, Truro. The AA Restaurant Guide also nominated Kevin Viner as one of the Top Ten Chefs of the Decade. He is not on the 2013 list as he didn’t have a restaurant when the judging occurs.
However, Kevin fell out with the Vale Hotel and his restaurant didn’t open in Mithian.
2016: Kevin Viner was in Dorset, as Executive Chef at Neo, just 50 yards from the beach at Bournemouth pier. He left a month after they opened. In 2017 Kevin was catering consultant for Moonfleet Manor Hotel – Kevin plans to return to Cornwall in the future.
