RAF to train at Newquay Airport
A deal between the Ministry of Defence and Newquay Airport will see military aircraft personnel training at the airfield. An airport spokesperson said the “long runways and uncongested airspace was ideal”, and passengers would not be affected by the training.
RAF St Mawgan’s airfield was handed over to Cornwall Council in 2008 and became part of Newquay Airport.
The training scheme will begin on Tuesday and runs until 30 April. Continue reading

Airport in development trial
Newquay Cornwall Airport has been chosen to join a national trial looking at how the planning process can be made more efficient. Cornwall Development Company (CDC), working with airport operator Cornwall Airport Limited and Cornwall Council, has secured £10k of Government funding to progress what is called a Local Development Order (LDO) for aviation-related development at the airport, which is owned by the council.
It is part of a pilot scheme set up by the Government’s Planning Advisory Service to look at potential uses for LDOs, and the airport is just one of ten schemes in the country taking part. Continue reading

Ryanair Quits Newquay Routes
In yet another change in flights to Newquay, Ryanair today announced it is pulling out of routes and flights to Newquay Airport, meaning the end of the popular Newquay to Alicante summer route.
Ryanair say the flights between Newquay Airport and Alicante are being withdrawn as a protest against the £5 Airport Development Charge that passengers are asked to pay when they leave from Newquay Airport. The nearest airport to get to Spain is now Exeter.
Ryanair will be contacting passengers who have already booked tickets, to give them a refund. Continue reading

Air Southwest To Drop Newquay Airport to London Gatwick Route
There was a surprise announcement today when Air Southwest said they are pulling out of their daily Newquay to London Gatwick route.
Air Southwest have operated four flights daily to London Gatwick, but the service will stop with effect from 1 February 2011.
This leaves Flybe as the only airline now linking Cornwall with London Gatwick all year round. Ryanair ceased flying the Newquay to Gatwick route in 2009 and Air Southwest dropped its flights between London City Airport and Newquay Airport in 2010.
Let’s hope that another carrier fills the gap, so that there’s an effective Newquay to London route that can be used for tourism and business users alike, as well as those locals who are working away and weekly commuting. Continue reading
