Long Business Description At the bottom of the cliff steps in the garden of the Fern Pit Cafe is the Fern Pit Ferry. Operating during the summer season, during daylight hours, when the tide is high there's a small boat that can transport you from Crantock Beach to the Newquay side of The Gannel. When the tide is low there is a small wooden footbridge you can walk over.
The Fern Pit Ferry Boatshed also sells freshly caught lobsters and crabs. With a minimum of just one hour's notice they will cook a fresh lobster or crab for you - pop in and choose the one you want, then collect it later, or phone your order ahead. Perfect for your beach picnic, just add fresh bread and salad and you're in heaven.
The small shop at the Boathouse also operates as a beach shop selling all your usual beach gear, including buckets, spades, rubber dinghies, wind breaks, body boards, beach games and balls as well as crab fishing lines, nets and bait which can be used in the river and rock pools on the beach. They also sell a wide range of shells and jewellery.
The privately owned steps, which take you to the top of the cliff and Fern Pit Cafe, are open to the public between 10am-6pm during the open season (end May - mid September).

Long Business Description Fistral Beach Surf Centre has had a live surfcam mounted on its roof since soon after the building opened in 2003.
Pointing directly at the edge of the surf and across the beach you can get some great views - it's even possible to make out the waves at night when the tide's in.
Sometimes the cam can be a bit of an annoyance though as it does rely on plugins in your browser which might not be present - and, more recently, it's now time limited and, to be honest, I don't really understand it and/or it never loads for me any more, so I give up. You might have better luck with it!
When the weather's bad, especially in winter, this surfcam takes a bit of a battering and you might find it's smeared with surf spray, or waggling in the wind a little.... which all adds to its charm.

Long Business Description There's a Fistral Beach webcam at the premises of Ann's Cottage, at the Fistral Surf Centre.
This is a live cam, giving wind speed, temperature and other weather-related information.
This webcam at Fistral can be slow loading, but you get good views, with the camera changing direction every 15 seconds or so, providing changing views.
